Abstract: Energy and environmental sustainability is the growing concerns, which has ignited the interest of world for more competent transportation systems and industrial performances. Friction is responsible for the loss of one-fifth of the all energy resources worldwide. The researchers are working upon finding new lubricants and additive to improve the wear resistance of the lubricated rubbing surfaces of materials. Research have led to the discovering of new materials that can be used as additives in lubricants. The nano particles additives in the lubricating oils have been also investigated. These nano additives in the colloidal form act as anti-wear, extreme pressure and friction modifier in the lubricants when used with proper surfactants. In this study, nano fly ash particles were used as an additive in SAE 10W-30 lubricant oil to investigate the tribological properties of AISI 4140 steel using an indigenously developed pin on disc wear testing setup.
