| Abstract: | In this study, nanofly ash was used as an additivein SAE 10W-30 lubricant oil to investigate the tribologicalproperties of modified oil on AI SI 4140 steel using anindigenously developed pin-on-disk wear testing setup.Cylindrical pins of AISI 4 140 were prepared to wear testthe specimens: (a) in dry conditions, i.e., without lubri-cating oil and without n anofly ash, (b) with lubricating oil,and (c) with lubricating oil ? 0.5 wt% nanofly ash. Spec-imens tested under lubricating oil ? 0.5 wt% nanofly ashexhibited excellent wear resistance properties of AISI 4140steel. Preliminary studies revealed that the use of nanoflywas beneficial in reducing the coefficient of friction up to76.5% and wt loss up to 28.9%, when compared with thespecimens tested under SAE 10W-30 base oil only. |
