Abstract: Predictive analytics is a part of advanced analytics where extensive use of techniques like statistical modelling, machine learning and artificial intelligence are found. Predictive analytics are mainly used for predicting the future events and values including financial and econometric analysis. Consumer Price Index (CPI) is one such economic indicator that reflects the economic condition and inflation rate of the country. Many statistical and AI based techniques are being used to forecast CPI. This paper presents a comparative study and analysis of forecasting the CPI values of India for eight products using SPSS Expert Modeler and Artificial Neural Network (ANN). The results show that though SPSS is much used and most preferable for time series analysis but still there are some cases where ANN performs much better than SPSS.
